Reach Capital Leads Seed Round to Scale CurvePoint's Wi-AI, a Wi-Fi-Based School Threat Detection System
Pittsburgh, PA – December 5, 2025 - CurvePoint, a Carnegie Mellon spinout transforming school safety through Wi-Fi-based spatial intelligence, announced today that Reach Capital has led its seed round to scale its privacy-first Wi-AI platform.
Wi-AI uses AI to decode how Wi-Fi signals interact with the physical environment, capturing subtle disruptions caused by people and objects, to deliver real-time insights into weapons, occupancy, and movement.
Unlike camera-based systems that require a threat to be visible, Wi-AI provides real-time situational awareness while protecting student privacy and detecting concealed objects through materials such as backpacks or bags.
"Continued support from Reach Capital reinforces our vision for proactive, privacy-first safety," said Skip Smith, CEO of CurvePoint. "School districts should not have to choose between keeping students safe and respecting their privacy. Wi-AI shows that both are possible by using technology schools already have in place."
The investment follows a year of significant growth for CurvePoint. The company partnered with Chartiers Valley School District, the first district in the United States to begin deploying Wi-AI across all campuses, and recently established a statewide partnership with Questeq, a managed service provider that supports more than 40 districts in Pennsylvania. These collaborations have laid the groundwork for broader expansion.
"Schools are asking for tools that improve safety without adding complexity, additional staffing burdens, or expensive surveillance hardware," said Steve Kupfer, a Partner at Reach Capital. "CurvePoint's solution delivers immediate, practical value by using the Wi-Fi infrastructure districts already trust. It's rare to see a solution that is both powerful and easy to implement."
Camera-based systems often miss threats when weapons are concealed or out of view. Wi-AI takes a proactive approach by analyzing disruptions in Wi-Fi signals to detect potential threats in real time before a weapon is visible.
Wi-AI gives districts a real-time view of what is happening inside its buildings in a way that is unobtrusive and respectful of privacy. It helps security shift from a reactive approach to a proactive approach. By providing early insight into potential threats, it allows districts to address issues before they become threats.
CurvePoint will use the funding to expand into additional districts, enhance its AI models with real-world data, and grow its network of partners that support implementation and deployment. The company also plans to broaden its spatial intelligence capabilities into sectors such as healthcare, senior care, and workplace security as it works toward a future where connected environments are both smart and private. To support this growth, the company is moving to a new headquarters at 600 River Ave, Suite 103, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, effective 1/1/2026.
